the dinner set

I started learning to throw in autumn 2021, so I had about a year and a half of on off throwing experience when my closest friend from school asked if I could make her a full dinner set… In a moment of questionable confidence I said yes.

At the time, I had played around with shapes, but a lot of my pots flopped (literally) and I had yet to make anything consistently. Four dinner plates, side plates, and bowls was a serious challenge for my throwing skill at the time. It took me a long time to finish everything, with plenty of cracked plates, glaze application fails, and slightly wonky proportions along the way.

But that little project pushed my skills at the wheel more than anything else I’ve done until that point. Working full time at a start-up and trying to dedicate as much time to the wheel as I could wasn’t an easy balancing act, but I’m so proud that I pushed through and created a lovely set which my friend absolutely loved!

It took time, sweat, tears, and a hell of a lot of trial and error, but I got there in the end :)
